Same Expectations for All

Reader comment on item: The War on Campus

Submitted by Greg Potter (United States), Aug 11, 2005 at 21:11

As the world grows smaller, the need for universal expectations for appropriate, fair and humane behavior becomes much greater. When people finally "get it," the majority will establish a world order that defines and punishes criminality equitably, without religious, racial, ethnic, gender or sex-based influences. The true heroes of history (e.g. Ghandi or M.L. King) should serve as our examples.

A unity of focus, based upon dialogue and compromise will rule out. Thugs are thugs, and that is how we need to proceed. Unfortunately, sometimes war has to be just. Fighting oppressive oligarchical, dictatorial or monarchial regiemes, along with the most radical groups that promote violence for any reason, is just. Let the rule of international law win out. Be willing to fight the "right fights," and we will all benefit in the long run.
