Reminds me our democracy is still healthy when I'm able to read refreshing criticism of this nature. I'm thankful again Mr Pipes. History owes you many accolades for how you carefully and truthfully balance how history is recorded and later reviewed.

In the mid-1980's I worked at KGTV 10 in San Diego. I was out on a weekend news shoot. We are told to attend a fund-raising dinner where Ali was the guest of honor. The fund raiser was for Sagen Penn, who was later acquitted for murdering two SDPD officers.
We approached Ali with camera & microphone hot. Ali didn't know why he was there or what the event was even about. The cameraman froze in his shoes, not knowing what follow up questions to ask. Given what I witnessed, I've always since wondered how he regained his thought processes where he was quoted making intelligent statements.

Personally, Ali never had my respect. I too carefully follow history. I've never forgiven him for his draft dodging. He personified, unfortunately what so many Muslims are about. Preach one thing while doing opposite while holding Christians/Jews to the highest standards yet.
What did he do regarding the "millions left behind"?
Great to see his grandson going through bar-Mitzvah.
