Hi, Waza. You said,

yet some physicists say the whole universe is the ultimate free lunch - arising out of nothing.

Those physicists are obviously out to lunch -- probably at taxpayer expense. You continued,

again - what did the 'big bang singularity' - and all space time - exist in? What was it contained in if space did not exist?

You're asking me, as though I should know the answer. First of all, why did the singularity (if it existed -- remember, it is just a hypothetical concept) have to be contained? My understanding is that before any "thing" -- including time-space -- existed, the laws governing its formation existed. These were contained in the word of God, as per:

John 1:
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

There is nothing difficult about that passage. If one accepts it by faith, one has an explanation of all physical phenomena. If one does not accept it, one must continually guess, without likelihood of proof. The wording is simple: Within the "word of God" are contained all the laws governing the creation of matter (verse 3).

Just think of this "word" as a DNA molecule, if you will, a string of instructions -- with one exception: When DNA is transcribed, resulting in the production of all the proteins and tissues in a living organism, other "helper" molecules, such as pre-existing proteins must also be present, as well as a cell wall to isolate the process from hostile chemicals and conditions. With the word of God, no "helper" entities are possible, since, verse 3 tells us, ALL things are made from the word of God. His word is therefore more than just a template, like DNA: It is absolute, irrefutable law: God literally speaks things into existence. This is not something from nothing: it is something from God.

All matter, all energy, all singularities, all manifestations of existence in the known universe, are governed by irrefutable laws. Those laws, obviously, preceded the Big Bang; and John tells us that they originated in the word of God. You continued,

and what of the 70%+ dark matter/dark energy? What and where is it all?

What of it? If it exists, we know from the above where it comes from. As to where it is, what does this have to do with the singularity, with creation or with anything? If it exists, John says it all comes from the word of God, from the foundational laws of existence. Some don't believe John. Perhaps they believe the dark matter can be found beneath a giant turtle. If one rejects the Bible, there can be no end to speculation.
