Turkey has their issues but they certainly are a successful democratic country. They are a member of NATO and have the second largest standing army in the alliance.

Yes, there are struggles between secular and religious elements in Turkey but the U.S. has there extremist evangelicals that complian that they are victims of "anti-Christian" conspiracies but if all their dreams could come true, they would want to turn the U.S into a theocracy.
