It is one million dollar question , whether clerics really wanted to impose shariah as enunciated by government of Pakistan or clerics were used by agencies to appease generally western countries and particularly US. Toll claims of government that not only leading activists of Al.qeada were in Lal Mosque but also foreigners had made hostage Ghazi brothers who became tools in their hands.

Furthermore, arsenals and sophisticated weapons were stored to fight against para military forces. All claims were textile to get appreciation and praise from US. Today US and her allies, call them Islamic terrorists but yesterday US labeled freedom fighter and gave them stockpiles of weapons to fight against communism. Once US achieved their objectives, they neglect Afghanistan and repatriated people those got shelter in Pakistan. On the instructions of US , funds were given to clerics in Pakistan to nurture the minds of youth for Jihad in Afghanistan. The prominent clerics of Lal mosque were the product of Afghanistan war hence they adopted militant approach to impose Shariah come what may.
