Exceptions which prove the rule?

Reader comment on item: How Church Attendance Affects American Attitudes toward Israel

Submitted by Doug Mayfield (France), Aug 6, 2014 at 05:15

By choice, I am not religious but do strongly support Israel. More importantly, I know a lot of people, many of whom are active on line, who, though not religious, strongly favor Israel over all of the countries and peoples surrounding them, including the PA, because Israel is the only free country in the MIddle East.

Those on the Left may or may not be religious but in my observation, they are thoroughly authoritarian and despise, and attempt to stamp out, the concepts of freedom and individual rights wherever they find them, both here in America and abroad. This certainly includes the current occupant of the White House and his appointees.

They believe in a centralized state which should take control of our lives cradle to grave and they vote accordingly, that is, almost without exception, Democratic, but particularly Leftist authoritarian Democratic.. Naturally these people gravitate toward malevolent murdering tyrants such as Chavez, Castro, and particularly in this case, the Palestinian Authority and their cronies in Hamas.

I don't think that a move away from religion on the part of Americans necessarily bodes ill for Israel. At least in some cases, those of us, who made an individual choice not to be religious and who do respect the right of others to choose and worship as they please, still intensely value freedom, individual rights, and their crucial corollary, strictly limited government. So we support israel.
