Moderate Islam oxymoron?

Reader comment on item: The Middle East Forum Debates Moderate Islam

Submitted by Wallace Schwam (United States), Mar 30, 2014 at 10:37

Pipes points out that both Judaism and Christianity have moderated their views on previously dogmatic positions such as homosexuality. However, they've done so under attack from their OWN constituency. Using arguments, mostly drawn from science, constituents threatened to leave their religious communities unless changes were made. A change of this type can be made only when the power of religion is waning (the West) NOT when it is in the full tide of expansion.

As long as militant Islam can point to military and ideological victories, moderate islam will burrow into the earth like a small mammal in the age of dinosaurs.
