The Iran Deal--President Obama's True Objectives

Reader comment on item: The Geneva Agreement with Iran: A Foreign Policy Disaster

Subject: The Iran-P5 +1 Deal

I believe President Obama accepted this deal because he wants to significantly reduce Israel's relative military superiority in the Middle East.

Additionally, he aims to coerce Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait (who oppose the deal) to accept the idea of "containment" of Iran.

"Containment" worked with the former Soviet Union because of the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD).

Unfortunately, Iran's leaders, have publicly stated that they believe their 12th Imam will re- appear after a "giant war". I respect their religious conviction.

In their case, MAD is not a deterrent but an inducement.
