Middle East Cold War Hypothesis

Reader comment on item: The Geneva Agreement with Iran: A Foreign Policy Disaster

Submitted by John in Michigan (United States), Nov 24, 2013 at 16:15

On a different but related topic, I have enjoyed Dr. Pipes' discussions of the Middle East Cold War hypothesis, particularly the insights into counter-intuitive but real, if informal or secret, alliances between unlikely partners. I look forward to discussion on how the Cold War alliances shift in light of this deal and the Syria situation.

Or, perhaps the hypothesis will prove no longer useful. Just when the Cold War hypothesis seemed poised to make sense of chaotic and opaque ME politics, this deal comes along and throws it all into question...
