Sarah, It's a great (and very sad) question and I think that part of it comes from the very strong roots of the American Jews to the civil rights movement and their vigorous defense of blacks (who then turned and spurned them), or a sense of moral right and wrong that causes them to believe that peace must be pursued at all costs, whether it is actually effective or not. I don't know. I do know that these types strongly believe that they hold the moral high ground, and as other liberals, they fiercly believe that anything is permissible if it is in the greater good of the goal of peace and justice. What they have never bothered to understand is that not all people in this world are comfortable westerners with the luxury of being so ignorant.
