Jewish Masochism Needs More Study

Reader comment on item: Mainstream Jewish Institutions Celebrate Anti-Zionists

Submitted by Dave (United States), Apr 11, 2013 at 07:07

I've always noticed this tendency by some Jews to confuse friends and enemies, but it only occurs sometimes, usually among highly secular, assimilated, Ashkenazic Jews. It caused me to avoid Reform affiliation, which I had grown up with, and attend Chabad.

From my own observations, I think it expresses a subconscious hatred of one's own Jewish identity, which imposes a barrier to complete assimilation and conformity. It's a kind of masochism, and is stupid and cowardly.
