Reader comment on item: Turkey, Closest to Leading the Middle East

Submitted by Nazim Cairo (France), Jan 21, 2013 at 17:30

Dr Pipes, good interview. it is strange to call Algeria a moderate Islamic country, however It is a bit of an awful place, military dictatorship with decrepit infrastructure destined to fail. I would not change Turkey for it any day, and I guess this will stay true in the future. I just dont see how it can offer any sort of alternative discourse to successful economic Islamism. I am not ideological like yourself and economic well being of population is more important to me than abstract ideological constructs.
