Isn't this just the indigenous population returning?

Wouldn't this be simply a case of persons returning to the land of their grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great grandparents etc? The same for many Jews marrying into a European family. Why not just have one set of rules that apply to all races and religions? Isn't that a formula for peace, tolerance and understanding? Why does this all have to be so bitter and full of conflict? Can someone answer that?
