Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Israel

Reader comment on item: My Optimism about the New Arab Revolt

Submitted by BA (United States), Mar 1, 2011 at 18:18

There are four important countries in the Middle East that directly or indirectly affect us here in the USA.

· Israel

· Iran

· Egypt

· Saudi Arabia

Israel's political system is similar to ours; hence there is no chance for a revolt.

Egypt had fallen to the so called" The youth movement" that does not have a leader, therefore it might lose its compass anytime. I am not optimistic though. I think the Muslim Brotherhood and other radicals will hijack this movement.

Iran is an imminent danger to the Saudis and to the Israelis to a lesser extent. I don't believe Iran poses any threat to the USA at this moment.

Saudi Arabia might fall if we let it, which I don't think that we will for strategic purposes. But it is not in a healthy situation nowadays. The fall of Iran would definitely strengthen Saudi Arabia but the fall of Saudi Arabia won't necessarily benefit Iran.

With the exception to Iran, I don't believe that the Arab' countries are ready for democracies and chaos may be the outcome of these demonstrations.

Since we're dependent on the Saudis' oil, we have to keep an eye on the ball but also to encourage a reform to the Kingdom, which is still the center gravity of extremisms. We have to let the Saudis know that we're still not happy with the way they treat women and minorities and the indoctrination of their people through the schools, media, Mosques and the religious police which is a Taliban's type Government inside the Government.
