Reader comment on item: My Optimism about the New Arab Revolt

Submitted by David Brooks (Israel), Mar 1, 2011 at 09:19

Listening to Mariah Carey is anti-democratic? Hurrah! I always had a problem with her music, now I have solid intellectual backing for my distaste :P

One other point Dr.Pipes, I share your hopes for the region and it is a dangerous game, but if Iran goes then Saudi Arabia must go to. The Wahabis simply cannot be left as the only dominant fanatics. Their damage to the West has been the greatest with radical imams in mosques, al Qaeda etc. and Iran's rise has been largely thanks to Iraq's fall.

I do not, however, think it is solely about 'Arab or Persians not being able to build democracies', what about the strong organisational forces of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, or the rapidly radicalising Turks?
