Reader comment on item: Two Decades of the Rushdie Rules
in response to reader comment: Michael of Egypt

Thanks Deborah; your words have really lifted up my spirits.

But just let me drop in some remarks.

Firstly, I think one of the cardinal problems here is, How to define Islam?

Islam is an ideology not a religion. Does the constitution say, Freedom of ideologies?

Secondly, with the progress of the west, certain self-evident facts have been dropped and must be settled. One of them is the relationship between State and Citizen. The rule is (and has always been): that the State while providing safety and regulation for the Citizen, the Citizen also becomes obliged to it.

The Citizen has certain obligations towards his country: not to betray it; to take part in its sustenance and security; not to commit crimes against fellow citizens; to abide by the law … etc.

These are the rules. If State breached any rule (safety; regulation) its government is to be annulled; if Citizen did on his part (if he, betrayed the country, worked against its sustenance and security, committed crimes against fellow citizen, … etc), he is considered a traitor or a criminal and to be trialed.

These are the very simple rules that nobody speak about nowadays in the West.
