At least Rushdie didn't suffer being persecuted by his own government

Reader comment on item: Two Decades of the Rushdie Rules

Submitted by someone (Israel), Sep 15, 2012 at 18:06

We've come a long way. Had it happened now and had Rushdie been a citizen of Obama's America, he might now be under arrest and the government/army chiefs would've contacted the publisher (as they did with youtube) asking whether the book doesn't go against some publishing-rules.

Arresting whoever made that video sends out the message that if you publish something islamic fanatics find upsetting, the government will do their best to find a way to put you in prison. It's an anti-blasphemi law de-facto.
