Israel and the Suez Canal

Reader comment on item: Britain's New Export: Islamist Carnage
in response to reader comment: UK did not back down to Nasser

Submitted by Nenette Grunberg (United States), Sep 3, 2010 at 10:34

My recollections are somewhat different . Israel was attacked by the Egyptian forces with the help of its arab brothers. Ariel Sharon pushed them back ,walked his army through the Sinai and reached the Suez Canal,. He was asked not to cross the Canal but in defiance , Ariel Sharon was on his way to Cairo when the United Kingdom parachuted its army into the Canal to stop the vigorous Ariel from marching on to Cairo, This is something the Britts and the rest of the Western world did not want. The Britts proclaimed a cease fire which left the door right open for further attacks onto Israel in the years to come.
