So nation of Islam is not Muslim

Reader comment on item: Permit Muslim-only Enclaves?
in response to reader comment: Nation of Islam is not even Muslim, much less "Islamist"

Submitted by Ted (United States), Jul 17, 2010 at 23:46

Dear Dr Pipes:

Your reader Kushibo states that Nation of Islam is not Muslim. Well that is the modus operndi of the Islamists. As long as a sect serves their purpose (e.g in staking claims to land and property, in building political clout, in being disagreeable, and at the time of census), every one is a Muslim. And when the position taken by a group or person becomes inconvenient or difficult to defend (e.g when the perpetrator resorts to heinous violence), they cease to be muslims. Heads I win and tails you lose. Perfectly good ethics.
