You are perfectly correct regarding the distortion of islamic history and their close ties to the NAZIS. Yasser Arafats uncle, if my memory serves me well was Amin Hussaini, and he was hand in hand with the NAZIS, making frequent visits to NAZI Germany during the second world war. After the fall of the NAZIS, this was very embarrassing for the Husseini family, and Yasser changed his family name to Arafat, thus distancing himself from the NAZIS, and the backlash of any involvement with them.

Unfortunately, my memory is not as good as it once was, I suggest you read the book " A Cup Of Trembling " by Dave Hunt, and this will give you all the details that I am unable to recall.
