Islam and democracy

Reader comment on item: The Problem with Middle East Studies

If you take literally the core message of Islam then this religion and democracy are not compatible. Islam is based on the fully dictatorial rule of Allah and humans just obey not arrange their affairs themselves.

Fortunately for all humanity most people ignore most of the stupidity contained in their religions. For example Jews do not stone their brides that have been found non-virgins on the wedding night . Christians do not try tp move mountains praying but develop sciences and technology to better their lifes.

We the humans are reasonable enough to ignore our barbaric holy scriptures when it comes to our surioval and happy life. Accordingly we must hope that Muslims also could see the hoplessly backward nature of their religion and in practice ignore most of its tenets. Modifying Islam may be very hard but ignoring most of it would be easier.

Muslims should learn from Jews and Christains how to ignore the most stupid parts of their hoily scriptures. Our important goal is to weaken all religions and introduce reason to our moral and social behavior. Insted of following ancient illiterate prophets such as Moses, Christ or Muhammad we all should engage the useful and tested reason to our mutual relations and morality. Several thousand years of following scriptures must end the same way as we ended the beliefs in Zeus and Valhalla . Any person praying today to Zeus would be considered insane. Ideally praying to Allah and Yehvah will end up the same way.
