A Herculean task

Reader comment on item: The Problem with Middle East Studies

Submitted by Ugri (Finland), Jul 14, 2008 at 06:35

Some time ago I read about a member of Saudi royal family, who in a rare fit of candidness admitted that most people of the Levant are entrenched liars. So we have a very old culture of dissimulation and obfuscation, in one word taqiyya. Apostle John didn't mince his words, see John 8:44.
A Herculean task to fight those tendencies, which somehow seem to have been transferred to the Middle Eastern studies circles.
