U.S.: Nation of CitizensReader comment on item: The Travails of Brooklyn's Arabic Academy Submitted by Ryan (United States), May 26, 2007 at 17:32 The U.S. is not a nation of immigrants. I was born here, just like the multitude of the population were born here. Stating that the U.S. is a "nation of immigrants" is to imply that, since all are immigrants, it would be hypocritical for Americans to be against any type of immigration. It is a moral right of all American citizens to resist the invasion of our country by outside populations that serve to create a burden on us. That our ancestors emigrated here has no burden on our rights to assert ourselves on such subjects. The statement implies that I, as a U.S. born person, have little right to say what goes on when it comes to immigration yet my ancestors came here 200 years ago. I think it's about time we call America for what it is: A Nation of Citizens. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
