AmenReader comment on item: War as Social Work? Submitted by Jim Fitzgerald (United States), May 7, 2003 at 01:10 To the author, I say "Amen, brother."Just as too many too soon were trying to "evaluate" the US military strategy in Iraq and deem it a failure, so too are too many doing the same with the "social work" reconstruction. And I do feel the Afghan issue could be better, but many nations will shy away from gifting/investing in a nation that can not stabilize itself. Will it become another B-H, and will the UN respond as weakly as withthe B-H crisis? Hopefully not, but probably so. No matter what happens, the greater global media and world population will surely blame the US for doing the right thing, and they'll criticize for not getting the "social benefits" established/distributed fast enough. And the world thinks Americans are the ones who suffer from instant gratification disease!
