speaker shouted down at uciReader comment on item: Speaker Shouted Down at U.C.-Irvine Submitted by rafi marom (United States), Feb 9, 2007 at 09:43 Dear Dr. Pipes: It appears that Mr. Colmes does not understand the essence of classical liberalism. It is not that after you were disrupted by rude individuals, you were allowed to continue your remarks. It is rather that you should not have been interrupted at all and that the university failed to take any action to confront and punish the disrupters. Those people are not interested in civil discourse, the foundation of every liberal society. They are instead exemplars of their non-democratic, hate-filled failed soceities which offer slogans over substance. If those people were really courageous, they would have confronted you during the Q&A and allowed you the opportunity to respond. As for Mr. Colmes, G-d help us from protectors of free speech such as him. Sincerely, Rafi Marom Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
