ClarityReader comment on item: Speaker Shouted Down at U.C.-Irvine Submitted by Bill Storey (United States), Feb 7, 2007 at 22:58 We are not engaged in a war of civilizations. We are engaged in a war between civilization and barbarism. When Daniel addressed the UC Irvine audience, he was confronted by the barbarians. What is the difference? Civilized people engage in debate and thoughtful discourse. Barbarians prevent debate and reasoned discussion. Civilized people listen to opinions with which they disagree. Barbarians shout down and disrupt those with whom they disagree. Civilized people vote, assemble peaceably, offer reasoned arguments, petition their government for the redress of grievances, hold to a moral center, engage in compromise, and believe in education. Barbarians prevent and corrupt elections, disrupt peaceable assemblies, engage in propaganda, overthrow governments, demand moral absolutes, never compromise, and believe only in indoctrination. We are in a war against the forces of darkness. Daniel Pipes was confronted by a taste of those forces at Irvine. Imagine such forces in charge of our government, and you will begin to see what we are up against. It would be well if we woke up in the near future.
