Pipes at IrvineReader comment on item: Speaker Shouted Down at U.C.-Irvine Submitted by steven L (United States), Feb 7, 2007 at 22:42 Civil societies and civility do not exist yet in the Arab Muslim world. Therefore we cannot expect them (who recently immigrated) to behave according to the norms existing in this country. They come to this country to get an education about what democracy is all about and the universities fail in their obligations to teach that in the western world (democracies) there are rules that need to be respected if you want to be respected. However many of them have a fundamentalist education (Islam) which by definition does not recognize anything but the Koran. The universities failure to fulfill their obligation under the false pretext of freedom of speech will backfire soon or later.
