Reader comment on item: A New Round of Anger and Humiliation: Islam after 9/11

Submitted by Dee Feat (United States), Jun 13, 2002 at 17:45

The first one is that Islam had a "Golden age". History does not really support this assertion well and it is a never ending mantra coming from Muslims. The so-called "golden age" was a period of secularism, and the secular priorities were in fact solely responsible for this rather brief period of enlightenment. I would be much better said that the period refered to was due to the absence of Islam's influence, not because of it.

The other myth is that "Islamism" is somehow different from Islam. It's not. What you refere to as Islamism is mearly Islam practiced more accurately. There is -in reality- no such thing as "Moderate Islam". The Palestinians would fall under such a label as a seemingly unreligious bunch of miscreants. But when push comes to shove in their minds, they readilly blow their children up and do so with complete justification from Islam.

I admire your courage Mr. Pipes, you are one of the few in the media who has had the guts to confront this movement. It makes me crazy when I sense that your positions are "moderated" in any way to appease the Muslim community. They're going to hate us anyway, why pull punches?

The REAL problem in all of this is President Bush. This "war" on terror was lost the moment he began painting while standing in the corner by proclaiming this violent quest for religious world domination "a religion of peace". If the west is to survive, the mindset which allowed such a damaging proclaimation to issue forth in the wake of THEIR declaration of war against us must never be allowed to prevail. Keep the heat on Mr. Pipes and please start directing it where it will do some good; at the administration. The American people have not just been lied to, they've been lied to after their safety was proven to be an illusion and the magnitude of the lie is a slap in the face of every American's right to be both informed, and treated with respect. This President's ...failure to define the enemy have demonstrated that personal interests -his- have been allowed to overshadow the national security of this country...
