Can This Go On?

Mr. Pipes:

As they say in Hollywood, "I'm a big fan" and urge you to give thought to and expound on the simple question: "Can this go on?" How long can the U.S. and others continue under a daily seige mentality and terror warnings?! The terrorists seem to already have won -- air travel is a nightmare, the costs are in the billions and climbing, the economy is in the toilet, the stock market is hanging on by its fingernails and every day the news is so depressing one can hardly watch it but must.

How can any sane individual not understand that this is a war of civilizations and we need to decide--quickly--if we intend to survive or not? What say you?
