Arabs already have disposable divorce

Reader comment on item: After Saddam? Remaking the Mideast

Submitted by Gloria (United States), Feb 11, 2003 at 12:32

Bacevich's comment that "Arabs understand that freedom implies disposable marriages and sexual license" is laughable. Arabs have practiced their unique form of disposable marriages with the "I divorce you" three times mantra, and have practiced sexual license via slaves for centuries. The real reason for avoiding democracy is that some very wealthy, very privileged men would have to give up totalitarian power and their selfish lifestyles.
