Reader comment on item: State's Terror Untruths

Another intelligence failure?

In the past eighteen months there were over "80" suicide bombers who detonated themselves among innocent Israeli citizens. Yet our newly released 2002 "Patterns of Global Terrorism" report, listed only 6 - 8 acts of Terrorism against Israel??? This same report lists 45 in India? This is beyond inaccurate ... it is a complete and utter whitewash of Yasser Afarat and the Palestinian Authority.

Remarkable illustration of this failure:
Listed as a Terrorist Act:
16 May India
In Kashmir, a grenade thrown at the private residence of the Forest Minister fell short of its target, landing outside the main gate, resulting in no injuries or damage, according to press reports. No one claimed responsibility.

Left off the list?????
Oct 17, 2001 The assassination of Israel's Minister of Tourism Minister Zeevi is NOT listed as an act of terrorism? The responsibility of this act was claimed by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which the US State Department, your office, designated as a terrorist group.

You were given documents (authenticated by the US) that not only showed complicity in terrorist acts, but they also showed that the terrorist acts were paid for by the PA. Why weren't these documents incorporated into your report? Why didn't anyone use these documents to amend what you previously had compiled? This would have given US citizens a better picture of what is really going on in and against Israel ... and could soon -- or as Rumsfeld, Cheney and Mueller started telling us this past weekend -- will be coming to our own shores.

The World's attitude about Israel and Jews would also end up being tempered if this report was accurate. As it is, I am very ashamed and embarrassed about this report's farcical content. We should call a spade a spade and let the chips fall where they may...

Israel finally concluded that Arafat has no interest in stopping the terror that emanates from the Palestinian Authority. What was Arafat's response to this? Arafat called for a million martyrs to pave the way with blood to Jerusalem. The US response to the above? Try to make Israel talk peace with the PA.

We would not and did not talk with Osama Bin Laden and his gang of terrorists. Why are we pressing the Israeli government to talk with a shorter version of OBL? This clearly violates our own long standing U.S. Counterterrorism Policy listed on our State Dep't's Counterterrorism page for all the world to see. We are supposed to be the leader of the free world. Our actions and intelligence reports should be reflecting this leadership by not being afraid to print the truth.
