Naming specific representations of Mohammed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art ( jihan's Feb. 12 post) is tantamount to giving away military secrets. I suspect we may be in for an act of desecration in the coming months at this very Museum.

And it isn't only depictions of mohammed that rile Muslims. The centuries old giant Buddhist statutes were destroyed by the Taliban using every explosive device they had.

Eqyptian Islamists argue that the ancient tombs of pharoahs and artifacts of Egyptian Antiquity should likewise be destroyed as they are non-Islamic and "humiliate" the present Islamic nation.

Denying Christianity any legitimacy at all is par for the course in many Arabs including Egypt which has a Coptic Christian tradition much older than Islam but whose law forbids the building of churches - even those burnt down as a result of islamic mob action.

The fact is that Islam has much in common with the rules and practices of the Mafia.

1. Outsiders - "infidels" cannot be trusted and should be kept at arms length and only used to advance the Family's position.
In Islam, a "Believer" is warned never to develop close relations with Christians or non-believers.

2. Once the oath of obedience is taken ( in Islam it's when you are born a Muslim) you can never leave the Cosa Nostra. To do so is to forfeit your life.
In Islam once a Muslim you must always remain a Muslim or else face sharia law which calls for your death.
The Mafia - Obedience. Submission. Death to "rats" or informers by the Cosa Nostra's agreed Orders. Hitmen. Contracts.
Islam- Obedience. Submission. Death to transgressors by "Fatwa" ruling. Ayatollahs and immans constitute the Cosa Nostra's governing body. Hitmen. Promises of payment when the fatwa is carried out.
