Freedom?Reader comment on item: [Maher Hawash:] The Terrorist Next Door Submitted by Doc (United States), Feb 6, 2006 at 21:20 Is it possible for us to evolve to a point where we are not trying to kill each other, while living in a system that promotes that very idea? I agree that until, as a population, we can take on another way of thinking altogether there needs to be something in place that will keep the strong from simply taking from the weak. Oh wait, that's already happening. How much direct control do you have over your government and it's actions? Why is it that the major corporations of this country have the same legal rights as a human being? Don't you think that those very same corporations have a bit more control? If anarchists want to topple this government, how does that also mean that they hate this country. Are government and country the same thing? Having "served my country", I have decided that there is a wide and growing gap between government and country. Do you really believe that anarchists marching in opposition to that which they see is wrong means they support the wrong done us? I love my country. That doesn't mean I have to like what the people in charge are doing with it. It means I do what I feel is right to change it into what I want it to be. That's freedom for ya'. If you're happy with status quo, feel free to maintain it. However, keep in mind that this country does not belong to the people who run it. It belongs to us, and we are going to take back that control. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
