Reader comment on item: The Caliphate

Submitted by Jack (United States), Dec 15, 2005 at 17:31

Of course the caliphate was bin Laden's goal, but he was a little fish in a little pond. The ...policy of turning it into a big war has assisted his cause by internationalizing it. The real threat now will come from an enlarged, theocratic, nuclear powered Iran. The US has removed its old enemy, secular Iraq. The heavyweights at the Weekly Standard and danielpipes.org will soon wonder why they abandoned the Reagan era attitude towards Iraq, which kept Iran fully occupied at home.
