Why you can't trust the internet

Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: You sounds ignorance Didi

Hi Jessica,

Both you and Didi are correct. Each one of your devices receives internet from one or more servers. Location tag displays the location of a server you're connected to - not the location of your device.

VPN Proxy and similar services protect their users' locations on purpose. In such case your posts can pop up all over the world, but you can't quite decide on where at. Otherwise your device might be traced back to multiple servers, although all of them are likely be local and matching your actual location.

For this very reason, some of the posters have had the ability to press like/dislike button more than once. Lets keep on mind that the usual number of visitors on this forum is 3-4 at a time. In no way their likes would add up to dozens overnight.

Lastly, I'm actually in Poland right now :)

Cheers,

Shömi
