Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: American married a Syrian Kurdish man

I'm so so sorry to hear about your situation, please keep yourself safe and keep away from him as you have been doing. I, like you, was involved with a muslim/arab man from morocco and he sounds just like you described (emotionally manipulative, controlling, and abusive in all ways) and it really wore me down. He treated me like a child that needed to be put in their place when I'm a grown and independent woman who can take care of herself. Thank God we never got to the point of marriage, and I'm glad you removed yourself from that situation and that you are healing. Consider yourself to be blessed to be rid of such evil (cause that's what he sounds like to me).

I don't like to categorize all Islam/muslim men either, but I do really feel like because of their culture and religion (which says that women are beneath men and are not worth as much as a man--correct me if I'm wrong), then how is it possible for any of them to treat us women with respect and love that we deserve?? Their women are conditioned to accept that kind of treatment, but for us women from other cultures...well it creates a host of problems that we absolutely do not have to deal with.

I had to go No Contact with the ex, because like you, I was in love with him (or the way he presented himself as in the beginning) and it was really hard to let go, but I managed to and I am living proof that you will come out so much better to leave him in the dust where he belongs. They are just not worth the time, NONE of them are. I don't care how bad that sounds.

Take care of yourself! One day I'll find the courage to write my story as well.
