Inherent qualities of capitalism

Reader comment on item: Why Corporations Fund Radical Islam

Submitted by Darwin Barrett (United States), Sep 6, 2005 at 15:33

The capitalist free market system has several self-destructive qualities. One is the need to suppress negative publicity in the short term, with the hope of surviving the long term. This quality makes corporations and governments vulnerable to vocal special interest groups and other predators. It also drives the modification of our culture over time and will eventually redefine us to the point that the original republic will be unrecognizable. We have reached the point where we expect government to take care of our every need and yet we criticize everything Government does. We also seem to expect corporations to act like charities. If we continue to give government more power, one day we will realize government has all the power. Government will exercise the ultimate power when they eliminate our right to criticize the government. That will come shortly after we convince government to federalize all public corporations in the population's "Best interest". The process is "Self Enslavement" and we do it to ourselves because we, as a culture, are reluctant to take personal responsibility for our lives.
