There are far worse things than being alone.Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Sherry (United States), Dec 13, 2015 at 11:28 Trust me, you are far better off alone than in a hurtful relationship that torments you on a regular basis. You deserve better. Everyone does. I'm so happy that you saw the truth before marriage and children. Your life would have become so much more unbearable. I've been through this myself only I married the man. I'm so glad I got out when I did, though, even though it's been hurtful and disappointing and even humiliating. In my case he didn't show these behaviors prior to marriage or I'd have never married him. And we didnt rush into marriage, either. We were together for 2 1/2 years before we married, and he acted like Prince Charming. So patient, thoughtful, kind, loving, affectionate, everything a woman could dream of. But it was him "acting". It was so bizarre, as soon as we got married, I mean within less than a week (!), he changed completely. He became critical, controlling, and throwing cursing, rage fits at me IN PUBLIC. If someone will throw tantrums at you in public, you can imagine what life was like in private. I was shocked. At first, I thought he must have had a stroke or early/sudden onset Alzheimer's, if there is such a thing. We didn't stay married long, but I did stay with him for 2 years after marriage. At first the hateful behavior was only ocasional, but it became more and more frequent. And it was always irrational and I could never see it coming. The really sad thing is, to this day, I believe him to be a very good man, he just has a VERY bad problem with anger management, communication, jealousy, and control. I think he's also very insecure in himself. Much later, after I'd left him, I asked him, yet again, what had happened, why he had changed so drastically upon marriage. His answer: "The day we got married, it was like a switch flipped in my brain, and you became my possession." That has been his one and only explanation. Be so grateful that your man showed some of his true colors prior to marriage. I believe he'd have become even worse to you after marriage, and still worse after children. You have had a narrow escape. There's so much good in the world. Enjoy your freedom, your friends, your peaceful life. And may God bless you.
