My story, don't get involved with someone from the tourist resortsReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Maria (United Kingdom), Jul 22, 2014 at 18:58 Even if your guy seems so romantic and open minded, 'different from all the others' be warned. That's exactly what I thought. Sure there are likely some very 'good' Egyptian men, but these would likely be those who are rich and educated. I had been on holiday to sharm el sheikh a few times, and believed that I was wise to how Egyptian men were. I knew that 99% of the men in sharm are just after some skirt and not to believe a word they say, as even Egyptian men from other parts of Egypt have always told me never to trust a man who works in the tourist resorts. But then, one day out of no where, I met a man who worked at our hotel. I was bored one day and started chatting to him, which turned into hours, which turned in to days. He seemed different from other egyptian guys, he spoke excellent english and seemed to really know how to talk like a british person if that makes sense. He seemed so familiar. He told me that he was an 'open minded' guy who had lots of british friends. To cut a long story short (er), friendship turned to more, very quickly. After I returned to UK, we spoke for hours everyday on skype, and I arranged to return for another holiday in 2 months. He told me he loved me very quickly, and being a young woman who doesn't always use her head, I felt I loved him too, and we started making ridiculous and unrealistic plans for the future. When I returned we got an 'orfi' marriage which is the biggest joke I've ever heard. We stayed together in a resort and I couldn't help but feel that other egyptians thought badly of me, although of course they never said anything. This is when things took a turn. When I came back to the UK, he started asking me to go and move to sharm and be with him, get a job and pay half the rent. His parents, who live in another part of egypt found out about us, and his mother was apparently outraged, telling him all european girls are slags, and questioning why he would even think about being interested in me if I wasn't muslim. So, he asked me to convert to make his mother happy. This is when my alarm bells started ringing, as I realised all the trash about being open minded, and letting any future kids chose their religion was all complete BS. He told me he didn't believe in Islam or follow it, but I found out he went to mosque alot, he must have lied to me because he thought I would be put off. I then became sick for 2 weeks, and was unable to talk to him much on skype. In this time, I learnt, he was out in nightclubs everyday in sharm, as I saw many facebook pictures of him with different girls though he said 'it's just business'. But he would tell me all about how these 'pretty English girls with good jobs' like him, and that I am just 'common' because I only work in a shop (which was a studentjob anyway but besides the point). Then, someone else I know in sharm told me they saw him kissing a girl in a club. I confronted him (well, over skype), and he said I was crazy, and a liar as I believe liars. He said he would never talk to me again and blocked me from everything. I have to say, I felt a little relieved. Sad, yes, but also a little relieved that I didn't have to make a decision of whether to move there or not. It was taken out of my hands. Then, after a few weeks he unblocked me and criticised me for leaving him alone, blaming the end of the relationship all on me. But then he started saying he wanted to remain friends. He told me his business had gone under and he spent all his money on a car, and he had no money for rent or food. Then he asked me if I could lend him £150 by transferring it. He said it would make all his problems go away. I felt sorry or him, but the fact he has now asked me for money makes me disrespect him. He blocked me to get with other girls, then befriended me again, taking advantage of my feelings for him, for money. I have never heard of a happy ending to western girls relationships with egyptian men in the tourist resorts. These men know all the right things to say. I was lucky to not have been scammed for a visa or a lot of money. Be warned, ladies. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
