Democracy v RepublicReader comment on item: A Neo-Conservative's Caution Submitted by Raymond Singer (United States), Mar 9, 2005 at 01:12 Daniel points out the fallacy that a democracy offers individual freedom, as opposed to providing a means for the majority to dictate to the individual.The US is also losing the battle for liberty to democracy, which seeks to tyrannically impose its values on all citizens. A republic, such as envisioned in the original US constitution, offers a much better possibility of true liberty, than does our increasingly dictatorial democracy.
