Neo CautionReader comment on item: A Neo-Conservative's Caution Submitted by J. Glueck (United States), Mar 8, 2005 at 23:26 Mr. Pipes' comments are well founded and some of his downside remarks are not only accurate, they're prophetic. No amount of well intended or even militarily imposed intervention can change 100 generations of cultural behavior. The Islamists have come to hold the moral high ground in many of these nations anyway. They have learned that funding medical clinics and handing out charity funds endears them to the man in the street. Hizb'allah, Islam Jihadi, etc., they are only imitating something they see that works. They may have a future, but it's not in western style government as we now know it. Besides, they see the US and the west as an immoral, decadent malignance bent on imposing it's "modern" ways on them. Peace may come for a time, if you mean the absence of war, but it's only a matter of time.
