Islam behind Democracy
Reader comment on item: A Neo-Conservative's Caution

Submitted by A Hindu from Bangladesh (United States), Mar 9, 2005 at 14:09

This is the right description of Islam behind the mask of democracy in Bangladesh-that mask started slipping in reference to murders and casualty. However, the election was not in 2002; it was in 2001. But that is not the point; I remember the year all too well because the party won is Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) and the party lost is Awami League(AL); but, from our experience it doesn't matter anymore who wins. It is assumed that Hindus voted for AL; Muslims voted for AL too; but, all things considered, it was safe(no retaliation) and right(from Islamic divine authority to subjugate infidels and kafirs) to target the Hindus. The ferocity with which the political vendetta was carried out there can only be some justifications from Islamic beliefs. In some villages in Bhola (a district in southern Bangladesh) Hindu women of all ages were raped.

We may talk about democracy at any length, but the fact remains that Islam is a tremendously extremist, totalitarian political force and there may be different so-called democratic political parties in islamic countries but the highest authority always stays with the totalitarian system named Islam.

That is to say, the US may wish communicate to anybody like Hamid Karzai or Iyad Allawi (he was defeated in the election though) but the supreme authority comes from Quran and Ayatollahs who implement them. It will only take some more years to see another Ayatollah in those countries.

We had to wait for 30 years in Bangladesh to see the same cycles of murders, killings and rape due to some follow-up of political will. To elaborate: in 1971 the genocide-killing and rape by Pakistani army because we chose-momentarily-not to remain a Pakistani colony and form a secular country(Pakistan is a Islamic country by birth in 1947 and by spirit later). We Hindus(I don't know why Muslims voted for-for them all should be same) voted for AL in 2001 in Bangladesh for our securities alone-and our women had to be raped for making that choice-it took 30 years in Bangladesh to become completely Islamic.
