Reader comment on item: Support Assad

There are several big difference between Stalin and Saddam and Assad. The big one is the two former looked like winners or at least survivors when the West supported them. Assad is more and more looking like a loser. This would make the eventual winner an enemy.

Also you could always argue that Hitler was worse then Stalin and that Iraq was better then Iran. Assad is worse then his enemy. They at least are now much more democratic and freer then him.

Also what sort of a government would it be if Assad does survive, it will be a pro Iranian proxy, Islamic in all but name
