Advice to you... On Iraqi manReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Becs (Egypt), Dec 12, 2012 at 06:16 Hello I am not here to preach or tell you how bad or good Muslim men are.. I can only speak from my own experience. I met my Egyptian bf 2 years ago while on holiday in sharm.. I had the same start as many, he was in sooo sweet romantic, true, honest and loveable... I fell in love immediately.. I was 30 he 25. I spent time then coming out to visit him, he took me to his family home in Cairo so I trust him, I have been there several times, he never asks me for money and has always professed he never wants to leave Egypt for all the same reasons eg family, money, no work etc etc. I made the big move 1 year ago to live here as I am a hopeless romantic and believe in true love. I still believe he is honest and not a scammed. My insight for you is the reality if you do move to his country. Life is hard. Often min 12 hr days for a very very low income. Work every day no free time, no special weekends away!! I have very very few English friends, even then it's almost impossible to go out alone as he either says no or calls me at least 20 times. Of course in the beg this is romantic but now I can't breathe!! I am feeling more pressure to get married, we applied for a visitor visa which was refused even though he has good job and income.. He states now we can apply after marriage as it will be easier.. I am scared to marry as fear the control will be worse.. You actually have to get their permission to leave the country if you marry!! Cairo for some is lovely, for me it's dirty, dusty busy, noisy and as a western woman you get almost no respect.. I know some Arabic but often you feel shut out as you don't know all that is said!! Life in reality is very hard the pressure to change, have MUSLIM children, convert, change your clothing is immense. So please think about all these things as at the moment it's a romantic story and maybe he is genuine.. But my strong advice is try before you buy.. I can get out but so many others can't.. And yes it's hard I love him, but is that enough to give up all my independence, confidence, life, and that of potential children. I often feel very alone although he is with me every day it's too hard to explain and this is just the tip. The jealousy and culture and religion when you live it 24/7 can be too much for most.. And after 1 year living here I feel I am losing the will to live and don't want to be forced into marriage or kids!! Please listen and understand if you don't I am sure you will recall my words. Women are treated different in Muslim countries it's. FACT!! We are not equal and they have every excuse as to why. The main one just because they can as they are a man. I will be back in the UK soon alone but safe and eventually happy I'm sure.. This is all too much for me to sit and watch my life go bye!! Sorry its so long but felt the need to give my insight Good luck I feel you will follow your own path just don't commit 100% until you know everything Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
