The Sikh story: A case of double standardsReader comment on item: Niqabs and Burqas - The Veiled Threat Continues Submitted by true believer (India), Sep 9, 2009 at 07:51 The west seems to make notable exceptions in certain cases. The Sikhs are allowed to wear turbans and grow beards because their religion mandates it. Sikhs have a strong presence in UK, Canada and have been allowed by these government to wear turbans instead of helmets on policing duties. They are also lobbying for allowing turbans in US army They were trying to get permission for the same in France. They would have succeeded had the European court of justice not struck down their request. European court rules against Sikh turbans in French schools Sikhs are allowed to carry daggers (Kirpan) in most public places (including schools) in Canada Canadian Sikh school boys allowed to carry kirpan to school School boy goes scot free in kirpan assault case One wwould be allowed to carry kirpans in California shortly. Californian legislature and the kirpan bill One hand the west cheers when harmless headscarves are banned in schools and on the other hand they clamour for laws that allow boys to carry daggers into schools. It confounds me. Note: I am neither a .. sympathizer, nor do I have anything against the Sikhs.
