Daniel Pipes' Biased 'Standard'Reader comment on item: Glamorous Muslim Political Women Submitted by Anisa Abdalnour (United Kingdom), Aug 10, 2009 at 07:04 ... I only read a few comments here - one (surprisingly) was a Jewish reader from Poland who opposed this display while others questioned the 'religiousness' of these women based on their wealth and social status. Very interesting that the understanding and perspectives of several readers were so open-minded and non-biased, which I appreciated reading. My opinion is that these women, while displaying their beauty outside of the hijab - which is a sin according to Islam - are not representative and should not be representative of Muslim women around the world. While many Arab women try to imitate these women's sense of style and fashion and certainly this standard is visible in so-called Muslim countries; yet there are still millions of Muslim women including myself, who consider the hijab to be representative of identity and beauty. I personally disagree with DP suggesting that this standard - indicative of the influence of Western culture and ideas, and in many cases seen as an example of corruption and decay of society, SHOULD BE one that we must adopt in order to be socially or politically acceptable. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
