What Explains This?

Dr. Pipes --

Can you suggest an explanation? So many extremist Islamists are willing to murder for the perception that Western women are perverse and immoral, and yet the same culture that gave us the well-dressed and naturally attractive and shapely women that you have shown here, also gives us Zawahiri, Atta, and bin Laden, and their more ignorant and less worldly followers. Any explanation, please?

You raise some large questions, more than I can take on here. Suffice to say that there appears to be a re-iterationof the 19th-century pattern wherein the elite lived in a much more Western way than the rest of the population.
