Sixty years ago in June I was holding my "piece," as we GIs called our M1 rifles, over my head and wading through the surf toward Omaha Beach. It was exhilerating! I felt no fear of the Nazi machine-gun bullets streaming over our heads. Islamists frighten me. "Ideas," said Stalin, "are more dangerous than guns."
