I am alarmed that so many Muslims who reside in the US have such great devotion to Islamic law-- so much devotion that many Islamic academics now are advocating it to the exclusion or minimization of American jurisprudence. The Islamists, as Dr. Pipes has pointed out, are now even suggesting an amendment to the US Constitution that would dangerously abridge the rights granted under the First Amendment. This abridgement sounds so reasonable when it forbids blasphemy against "any religion" but the problem is farther down the road when details such as what are the names of the religions that can't be criticized or blasphemed are decided.
I am flabbergasted by the actions of the town council of a small town in the Northeast United States. They have allowed the Muslim community to install loudspeakers in the town for the calling to prayer five times a day. The town council bought the argument that these loudspeakers are analagous to church bells in their function.
Sounds reasonable except that what they didn't mention to the council was that the call to prayer announces that Allah is G-d and that Mohammed is his prophet.
How well would this Muslim community tolerate Christians making a similar statement about Jesus Christ that they were forced to listen to?
So many noses! So many camels!
