Ethics....Reader comment on item: Harems Accepted in the West Submitted by donvan (United States), Sep 3, 2008 at 11:17 The development of moral relativism, when viewed in the context of outcome, can only be seen as a disaster. Cultures may shift, societies ebb and flo, and philosophical and political fashion change, but without a set notion of good and bad and right and wrong, we have our present condition of chaos. Polygamy is detrimental and antithetical to the notion of freedom and individual relationships. Women in this arrangement are deprived of the most basic human right, the right of individuality. A woman who is one of several, is denied an individual relationship with the father of her children,and husband. This results in a condition of perpetual forced collective, always one of many. Once this condition exists, further subjugation follows. Women cannot be viewed as more than property.
